Jensen Beach FL is one of the historic towns on the Treasure Coast of Florida. The area is known for some of the most secluded beaches and nature preserves in the State. In addition to enjoying the beaches, the downtown Jensen Beach is another popular spot with visitors and locals alike. Small mom-and-pop shops are complemented by some wonderful restaurants in the downtown area. Jensen Beach has also some of the best parks in the region. The Indian River Park is worth a relaxing day trip by itself. Visitors can entertain the entire family by walking the trails, fishing on the pier, or simply having a picnic.

The History Of Jensen Beach FL

The history of Jensen Beach goes back to 1881 when the first pineapple plantations were established. John Laurence Jensen, a Danish immigrant, was the first to start a pineapple farm in the area. The plantation became a town called Jensen where today’s Jensen Beach is located. Pineapple farming eventually became the main industry in the area. The farmers were shipping one million boxes a year in less than two decades after the start of the first plantation. This boom resulted in Jensen receiving the distinct honor of being known as the Pineapple Capital of the World.

A freeze in 1895 and two fires in 1908 and 1910 devastated the pineapple industry. Eventually, the entire pineapple farming vanished by 1920. All these events did not erase the history of the pineapple as the symbol of Jensen Beach. Pineapples signs are still visible on top of the storefronts and homes in Jensen Beach. There is also a Pineapple Festival still being celebrated. The Festival started during Jensen Beach’s centennial celebration in 1988. Today’s Jensen Beach Pineapple Festival is the largest of its kind in the region. The celebration lasts all weekend long with live music, street performers, and activities for all ages.
